Name: Focus on Fairfield
Date: November 7, 2019
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM CST
Event Description:
On Thursday, November 7th , 2019, “Focus on Fairfield” presents its first-ever historical photographic exhibition at the Stephen Smith Fine Art Gallery, complemented by a student art contest. Pre-K through 12th grade students from Fairfield City Schools, Restoration Academy, Grace House, Foundations Early Learning & Family Center, and Christ Episcopal Church are participating. The event includes a reception at 6:30pm to recognize art show winners and remarks by U.S. Senator and Fairfield native Doug Jones at 7:15pm.

“Focus on Fairfield” was created to help Fairfield infuse a renewed sense of hope, pride and community. Inviting neighbors to gather for this cultural event, the mission is to celebrate Fairfield’s history as a steel town while embracing a new vision and direction for a brighter and more sustainable
city. This event is the launch pad in providing a venue where history, creativity, relationship, leadership and vision collide, igniting transformational change.

Stephen Smith, artist and gallery owner, has created a living museum of sorts – with the installation of replicas of the town entrance sign and street lights (circa 1910), as guests enter the gallery, located in the old Fairfield Theatre. The gallery will present select historic photographs that provide a glimpse into
Fairfield’s history, its growth and famous citizens, including Willie Mays, Larry Lankford, and U.S. Senator Doug Jones. The historic photographs will be complemented by the Fairfield students’ creative and interpretative artwork of what their city means to them.
